The original company was founded on 25 March 1926 by John Alan Gilbert and began bus operations under the name of John A Gilbert Pty Limited. In 1943 John A Gilbert acquired Tamworth's bus services and in 1946, Berrima and Orange joined the group. Today, the company, known as the Buslines Group, also includes services in Ballina, Bathurst, Berrima, Dubbo, Forster, Griffith, Lithgow, Northern Rivers, Orange, Tamworth, Ulladulla and Wingham. These subsidiaries and affiliated businesses form a network of quality bus services which is unparalleled anywhere in Australia. The Central West New South Wales city of Orange has become a major commercial centre for a thriving region based on livestock and crop production, mining and wine industry(vineyards). Orange is also known as Australia’s Colour City and is also well known as the birth place of Australian poet Banjo Patterson who was born 17 February 1864.
Orange Buslines operates a comprehensive bus service throughout the city and surrounding districts, with a fleet of 27 buses it fulfils a busy schedule carrying more than 5,000 school students, charter groups and route passengers daily. From Orange, bus services are available to outlying areas, extending to Bathurst, Lucknow, Manildra, Millthorpe, Molong and Spring Hill.
